What can I do?
Muslim volunteer ideas for every skill
Whatever you are good at, someone near you needs it. Here is where each skill fits.
In the kitchen and behind the wheel
Practical help that families feel straight away.
- Cooking: iftars in Ramadan, soup kitchens, meals for a family after a death.
- Driving: lifts to hospital appointments, collecting food bank donations, taking older neighbours to the mosque.
New to giving? Start with charity in Islam, explained. See which Muslim charities spend least on fundraising, from their accounts.
Teaching and listening
Patience is a skill too.
- Teaching: homework clubs, English classes, Quran classes for children.
- Listening: befriending an older neighbour, or a helpline once you have had its training.
Organising, and working online
For people who like a plan, or a screen.
- Organising: events, rotas, a mosque open day.
- Online: design, writing, video and social media for a mosque or a small charity; see volunteering online.
Every act of kindness is a charity.
